Position Title: Recreational Aide
Requirements:

MUST HAVE a minimum of 2 years of Recreational Aide experience—no exceptions.
Experience with MDS is essential.
Active BLS certification is required.
CNA certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Activity Planning and Implementation:Independently plan, organize, and implement appropriate activities tailored to patients’/residents’ abilities and limitations under the supervisor’s general guidance.
Assessment of Needs:Collaborate with the supervisor to assess and reassess residents’ activity interests, needs, and concerns through observation, conversations, and written records.
Community Reintegration:Support residents’ reintegration into the community by accompanying them on excursions, such as shopping malls, theaters, restaurants, picnics, bus/van rides, and other leisure activities.
Individual Engagement:Provide one-on-one engagement with patients/residents as needed.
Coordination and Logistics:Coordinate with hospital staff to ensure the availability and functionality of supplies, equipment, and materials for planned activities.Avoid schedule conflicts with other hospital departments or disciplines.Maintain and update the activity calendar.
Dietary Coordination:Work with the hospital’s dietary department to request special or ethnic food selections.Notify dietary staff about off-site meals or schedule changes.

Other Duties:

Prepare, set up, clean up, and return equipment and supplies after activities.
Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment.
Assist with inventory management and ensure proper maintenance of supplies and facilities.
Report shortages and requests for additional supplies or equipment.
Assist Certified Nurse Aides or licensed staff with patient care tasks such as toileting, bathing, dressing, and grooming.
Operate vehicles to transport patients during community excursions.
Attend interdisciplinary meetings and other assigned groups.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Strong understanding of recreational treatment plans and leisure-time activities.
Knowledge of human growth and development.
Ability to independently carry out recreational activities and therapeutic treatment plans.
Effective communication skills for interacting with patients/residents, families, and staff.
Familiarity with hospital policies, procedures, and worksite rules.

Supervision:This position operates under the supervision of a Recreational Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Activities Coordinator, or a Registered Nurse (Director of Nursing or higher).
Experience and Essential Skills:

A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in a recreational care setting.
Demonstrated ability to:Adhere to treatment plans and independently execute recreational activities.Work effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.

Certifications:

Active BLS certification required.
CNA certification is preferred.
